Maverick Brennan? It could have been a reality.

Jocks Blog. We Report. You Decide.

Colt Brennan: My Name Is

"I hear a lot of comments about my name and that I have the perfect name for a quarterback," he writes.

"My parents told me that when I was born, it was between Maverick and Colt. I'm glad they went with Colt. My real name is Colten James Brennan.

"I guess there was a TV show in the 1980s called "The Fall Guy" and the leading character was named Colt Seavers. My parents just liked the name and they wanted something different.

"When football became the sport I loved, Colt Brennan just seemed like a great name to have. I just went with that ever since I was a kid."

Colt Brennan totally beats my friend Firearm Matthews, even though he staunchly denies it.

Georges St. Pierre: Title Defense in UFC 87

The UFC World Welterweight Champion chats about defending his title against Jon Fitch:

"During the fight at one point they were chanting GSP, and it touched me and gave me more drive to beat Jon Fitch," he writes. "I even have more respect for Jon Fitch right now, I knew he was tough, but not as tough as he proved to be. I know he's got a heart of a champion and I'm sure we'll have the opportunity to meet another time in the Octagon."

Remind you of anything, all of the Jon Fitch mentions? His name is Robert Paulsen. His name is Robert Paulsen. If you said Fight Club, you were right! Ah, Lou!

Ryan Howard: Little League World Series

Ryan chills with the small fry sluggers in Williamsport, PA:

"The games are also underway now, and I got to throw out the first pitch for the game between Hawaii and South Dakota," he writes.

"As a baseball player, that's a pretty rare opportunity to actually throw out a first pitch. Think about it -- they typically bring in other people, musicians, community leaders, local heroes and celebrities to do that at our games. So that was pretty cool, though I was a little nervous since I'm not a pitcher. Good news is that I was able to stay cool under pressure and deliver the ball right to the catcher."

I'm glad you could hit your mark, considering you're in for 10 million large this season with the Phillies.

Phil Hughes: New Specs

"Hey everyone. Sorry it's been a while since I've checked in," he writes. "I've been feeling very good lately on the mound which has been encouraging. I'm hoping to build on that and make the most of what is left of this season. Also, my last two outings I've worn my Oakley prescription glasses and they have worked out well. So at least seeing the signs won't be an issue anymore, haha."

Nothing wrong with surprising your catcher on occasion: he is wearing all that gear.

Anna Rice: Mutual Admiration

The Canadian badminton competitor, after her final loss:

"After my last match I returned to the village and by midnight I still couldn't get the match out of my head," she writes. "This is normal, as I often get stuck re-playing a match over and over in my mind, like a nightmare from which you cannot wake.

"To distract myself, I began to wonder around the village, which was surprisingly busy despite the hour. Inside one of the athlete lounges, I came across a Czech athlete with an Olympic medal around her neck. Without realizing it I gravitated towards her. Our eyes met and I smiled at her, nodding to show my respect for her great accomplishment. She smiled back, a smile that only a handful of athletes in history ever get to show."

Matt Hughes: Clearing the Air

Not happy with the way the media is portraying you? Air it out on your blog like UFC competitor Matt Hughes:

"If you want, you can go look at my last blog entry and see that this is basically what I said," he writes. "So people criticized me for leaving the fight early and said that was disrespectful to GSP, I disagree, I just wanted to get out of there. Some people just need to realize that this is what I do for a living. Now let's take what you do for a living, go to a conference every month for a few years and see if you want to leave early during one of them. I even had one guy on Yahoo! Sports report that I said that I thought GSP was on steroids. If you go back to my blog and look at what I actually said, I said that I thought that he looked smaller than he has looked before. Never once did I say that GSP was on steroids for this fight. Just goes to show that you can't trust some of the journalism for the sport out there."

Paul Goodison: Drunk Gold Medalist

The Great Britain laser yacht competitor had some fun after he grabbed his gold:

"WOW!!!!" he writes.

"What an amazing feeling it was to stand on the podium yesterday as the national anthem played with a gold medal around my neck!!!!!

"It has been a long week and i feel emotionally and physically drained, and may be a touch hung over this morning."
