WHEN IT COMES TO OREGON STATE ALUMS, WE'RE BUILDING DAMS WITH GARY PAYTON

Oregon State alumni are everywhere these days. Steven Jackson's got a new contract. Chad Johnson is, well, Chad Johnson. (People are clamoring for him to race Usain Bolt!) Jacoby Ellsbury leads the AL in stolen bases. A.C. Green runs a successful youth foundation. Derek Anderson is about to lead a Browns team that could totally mess up the AFC power structure. Time to reflect on the best Oregon State athletes ever.

	1 (4)	GARY PAYTON	Nine-time NBA All-Star. Won two gold medals. Was first-team All-NBA twice. And, thanks to the 2006 Heat, he has a ring!
	2 (6)	TERRY BAKER	Won the '62 Heisman as QB of the Beavers. Was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in '82 and the Oregon State HOF in '88. Bonus: considered possibly the first Heisman bust in the NFL!
	3 (7)	CHAD JOHNSON	Too high? Potentially. He's a five-time Pro Bowler, though. Arguably the best receiver in football currently. Bonus: someone at Oregon State taught him well—antics get you publicity, publicity gets you more opportunity. It's a great cycle.
	4 (9)	A.C. GREEN	More a role player, but does have three NBA titles. Bonus: consistency! (He has the NBA record for consecutive games played.)
	5 (11)	PAUL LOWE	No idea who he is? Read this. He played in the American Football League before it merged to form the NFL. In fact, he was the '65 AFL MVP and a member of the AFL's All-Time team. Uh, did we crop the wrong pic?

	8 (85)	SLATS GILL	Coached basketball and baseball (!) at OSU in the '20s. We really like his name. His full name, by the way: Armory Tingle Gill. Amazing.
	136 (177)	STEVEN JACKSON	Only been to one Pro Bowl, but we're thinking this could be a big year for him. NFC West is generally pretty weak, and he grab a ton of yards like he did in '06.
