Andre Ethier: Didn't Get It Done
The Dodgers outfielder takes a break from blogging about food to blog about his day job and the Dodgers' loss last night:
"A perfect example of how we didn't come through was my at-bat in the eighth inning," he writes. "They take the lead and Raffy leads off with a walk and I have an opportunity to deliver a big hit and a big RBI and I hit into a double-play. I came up in the sixth with runners on second and third and no outs and lined out. It's a classic case of not taking advantage of the opportunity and that summed up the game for us. We have to hold ourselves accountable."
The Bills running back says goodbye to Gene Upshaw, a couple months after the former head of the NFLPA passed away.
"I'm n da yard once again to say rest in peace to HOF bay area oakland raider Gene Upshaw," he writes.
"OG was what all you raiders fans would say a true R.A.I.D.E.R. ma prayers again go out to da Upshaw family and fans."
C.J. Nitkowski: Back In The States
The American-born pitcher reflects back on his season in Japan:
"When people have asked me about playing in Fukuoka, I have always said the same thing; living here is great, the fans are great, the city is great, but the baseball was frustrating and unfulfilling," he writes.
"The foreigners in Fukuoka were in one of the most difficult situations in Japan. People had told me that before I came to Japan and players from other teams told me the same thing after I arrived here. Eventually I got to experience it myself. It was disappointing because it was so close to being the perfect situation. The team took great care of us and our families but on the field was frustration after frustration."
It was an up and down game for the Falcons on Sunday. Ovie breaks it down:
"I have to say it was surprising and disappointing the first time Jason Elam missed," he writes. "But it reminded us that he is human, despite being such an established player. When we gave him another chance, though, he dusted himself right off and came back to help us win the game. Douglas also had an amazing return on that last drive, and Ryan and Jenkins hooked up for that perfect pass downfield. Those two things combined to give Elam his second chance. Jenkins deserves a lot of credit there. You could see him turn to face the clock as soon as he caught the ball, making sure to plant his feet and get out of bounds with just that one second left on the clock. Perfect."
Whatever. The clock keeper totally screwed the Bears. Sigh.
"There are a few YouTube videos you guy's got to check out," he writes. "For one, check out Charles Hamilton freestyling on Green Latern's radio show. Cat goes for 9 minutes and stumbles a few times, but I like his style for the most part. The kid clearly has some swagger to him, the best ones usually do. If you haven't heard of him already, you'll hear about him soon. (He definitely cusses a bit, so hold off watching if you're a little young!). Secondly, check out A Cursive Memory's music video called 'Everything.' I'm not sold on the song quite yet, but it's the most creative music video I've seen in quite some time."
