THE MAG.COM PRESENTS:
ALL WORLD POWER RANKINGS

BEST FIGHT SONG? TOUGH TO ARGUE WITH NOTRE DAME HERE.
[Ed's note: Not sure what All-World Power Rankings is? Please click here.]
Today in 2001, Apple released the iPod. (Don't think that was a big deal for sports? You're wrong.) We could discuss a lot of things off the iPod: sports and technology, our personal perchant for downloading Adam Sandler comedy routines, the fact that we have Gus Johnson's best calls ever on there, or our fascination with Ben Folds' "Rockin' the Suburbs" . Rather, we're going to rank the best fight songs out there. Ya know, because you should go download all of these. On an iPod. Disagree with us? Eviscerate us in the comments. We had a hearty breakfast, so we can take it. (And hey, if you like music and sports, read this too.)
| TOP 5 | |||
| RANK (YESTERDAY) | WHAT | WHY | |
![]() |
1 (10) | NOTRE DAME | This ("The Notre Dame Victory March") is probably as recognizable as anything The Beatles ever dropped. It makes us think of Tom Hammond, which always takes you to a better place. Bonus: our girl Lyndsey went there. |
![]() |
2 (35) | UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN | It's called "Hail to the Victors," which is only moderately ironic this season. If you ever watch a UM game with alums, you know this thing gets sung basically every 12 minutes (or two pitchers, whichever comes first). |
![]() |
3 (62) | UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS | Controversial at No. 3? Perhaps. (Hey, they're #1 though!) It's called "Texas Fight" and you can listen to it here. We hit up a bar near Penn Station for the Red River game this season, sang this about ten times and ended up getting hugged by no fewer than 46 random people. It was a long day. |
![]() |
4 (9) | ARMY | "On Brave Old Army Team" is really more a "march" than "a song," but if you hear this thing and they're beating Notre Dame on a rainy November Saturday, you may stand up and salute the flag. |
![]() |
5 (42) | GEORGIA TECH | "Ramblin' Wreck" features these lyrics at one point: "Like all the jolly good fellows, I drink my whiskey clear." Indeed. And for shame! |
| HONORABLE MENTION | |||
| RANK (YESTERDAY) | WHAT | WHY | |
![]() |
82 (139) | UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA | "Fight On" is fairly intense and all, but does anyone else wish Nick Lachey and Snoop would duet this thing? |
![]() |
103 (1,870) | OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY | OSU has more songs associated with it than Celine Dion: "Carmen, OH" and "Hang On Sloopy" and "Across the Field" and all that. This, however, is the cutest thing you'll ever see. Lame joke: "This is the closest you'll ever see OSU get to USC." Zing! We're here all week. Try the hummus. |
| RISING AND FALLING | ||
| MOVEMENT | WHAT | |
![]() |
| UNC FIGHT SONG (Seriously, could they go undefeated in hoops?) |
![]() |
| WISCONSIN FIGHT SONG (We like it when they sing "Cecilia" but seriously, is this team ever going to win again?) |
