THE MAG.COM PRESENTS:
ALL WORLD POWER RANKINGS

WHEN IT COMES TO THE BEST PRODUCTS OF TEXAS TECH FOOTBALL, WE'LL RAID WITH ZACH THOMAS ANY DAY
[Ed's note: Not sure what All-World Power Rankings is? Please click here.]
Texas Tech football is a pretty hot concept right now: their head coach was at one point coaching in Finland (talk about outposts), everyone wants to believe they're simply a system offense but they beat a pretty complete Texas team on Saturday night (in amazing fashion) and—honestly, have you ever been to Lubbock, TX? It's hard to get guys to want to spend four years there, even if you can promise 'em video game numbers on offense. We decided to rank the best Red Raider football products. Sidebar discussion we heard someone mention Saturday: how amazing would it be if Incubus recorded a song about Leach? Heh.
| TOP 5 | |||
| RANK (YESTERDAY) | WHAT | WHY | |
![]() |
1 (10) | ZACH THOMAS | Dude is a seven-time Pro Bowler in the NFL. While at TTU, he was a consensus All-American his junior and senior years and once racked up 20 tackles in a single game against Missouri. They got a word for that in Texas (and elsewhere): "filthy." |
![]() |
2 (35) | WES WELKER | Cue the Debbie Downers: "He's only good because of Tom Brady!" Negative. The guy is legitimate, especially on special teams. In fact, in college he won the Mosi Tatupu Award. Don't know what that is? You can thank us later. |
![]() |
3 (62) | BILLY JOE TOLLIVER | Anyone remember this guy? Tolliver! Yea! He was inducted into Tech's Hall of Honor in 2002. Although this might seem like old hat to people watching Graham Harrell, Tolliver was one of the first TTU guys to chuck the ball all over the field with reckless abandon. He once hung 446 yards on an Okie State team that was pretty good back in '88. |
![]() |
4 (9) | KLIFF KINGSBURY | First cool thing: spelling your name "Kliff." Second cool thing: just take a look at his stats while at Texas Tech. He walked off with 39 school records. |
![]() |
5 (42) | MICHAEL CRABTREE | Too soon? Maybe not. Read this. His frosh year was basically the receiver's equivalent of what Herschel Walker did in '80. |
| HONORABLE MENTION | |||
| RANK (YESTERDAY) | WHAT | WHY | |
![]() |
82 (139) | BAM MORRIS | Star-crossed pro career, sure, but he was a beast in college. He won the Doak Walker Award and was second in the nation in rushing yards per game in '93. |
![]() |
103 (1,870) | B.J. SYMONS | Peanut gallery time: "SYSTEM OFFENSE!" Truth. However, this guy's numbers in his one season as a starter were absolutely ridiculous. He threw 52 touchdown passes (that's second all-time for one season, to David Klingler) and tossed eight in one game against Texas A&M. That year, he threw five or more TD passes in a single game FIVE TIMES. Wow. |
| RISING AND FALLING | ||
| MOVEMENT | WHAT | |
![]() |
| GRAHAM HARRELL (We should have him higher, probably. Definitely if he gets 'em to the BCS Title game!) |
![]() |
| CODY HODGES (Rough showing in that '06 Cotton Bowl game.) |
