With college students now bearing down for exams and the bowl season about to begin (Saturday: Wake Forest vs. Navy), we're gonna roll out some of the hits from A Season in the Stands, a students-chronicle-their-campus video project run by ESPN The Magazine this fall. Our schools were the Magazine's preseason Top 4: Oklahoma, Georgia, USC and Ohio State. While only the Sooners will be playing for the BCS Title from that group, all four schools chronicled an amazing ride through the fall of 2008.
At the University of Georgia, our girl was Chelsea Lipocky, a sophomore. Here's her intro video (we loved the sorority-sisters-on-the-stairs thing). Throughout the season, she introduced you to UGA Super Fans, had some of her fellow Dawgs honor Larry Munson, showed us the campus right after that demoralizing loss to Alabama, took us on a road trip, showed us how sororities get ready for gameday and much more. To view everything she contributed to the project, please go here.
At Fiesta-bowl bound Ohio State, our man was Justin Parsons, a senior. Parsons came out of the gate really strong: he interviewed Ohio Governor Ted Strickland before the USC/OSU game in September. (That game didn't go well for the Bucks.) He also introduced us to the cutest Buckeye fans you'll ever meet, showed us "The Buckeye Basement," gave us an early taste of students' views on Terrelle Pryor, gave us a peek at the Mirror Lake tradition, and got his roommate to admit that "Jim Tressel needs to win the big one." Here is everything Justin/OSU.
At USC, we had senior Jamie Hersch. She filed this hysterical video about a College Gameday sign-painting party before the OSU game. Befitting her warmer climate, she also showed us a pool party. Heck, she even introduced us to her dad (and her boyfriend) while teaching us about The Trojan Knights, USC's most storied traditions, her brother's experience at the University of Wisconsin, and remixes of the Trojan fight song using Dick Vitale's voice. To see everything Jamie and USC, go here.
And now, BCS Title-bound Oklahoma, where our man was Alex Shumate. You must start with "The Sooner Rap" then progress to Boomer Sooner's effect on coupledom. You can look back on what Norman was like before the Red River Rivalry game, meet "The Sooner Men" and check out Oklahoma's very first tailgate of this season. For everything Alex and OU, go here.
Thanks, guys. If anyone out there has interest in the Fall 2009 ediiton of A Season in the Stands, hit us up.
