Marbury gives advice; Cuban tells how he took a hit.

"I need life-changing advice, Spike." ... "Yeah?" ... "How will the cameras pick up the sheen on this jacket?"
Stephon Marbury has always been one to say what he feels, regardless of any New York or national media fallout that follows. He's been called a little crazy, but he's never been accused of not being real. Good thing he blogs.
With the supposed cancerous, me-first point guard from Coney Island not playing a single minute of basketball this season for the Knicks and thus having a little extra time, Marbury decided to let loose and drop some philosophy in a guest blog post about his experiences this year at the New York Post:
"I once heard it said that experience is not what happens to a man, experience is what a man does with what happens to him," he writes. "That's real science, so I'll drop that one again. Experience is not what happens to a man, experience is what a man does with what happens to him."
"I'm far from perfect but I always follow my heart so I know my path is true. We're gonna make mistakes but how can you grow if you never have the opportunity to move past your mistakes. I don't know where this is headed, but in time it will be resolved. In the meantime, I wish everybody out there a safe and Happy New Year in the greatest city on earth."
Real science, indeed.

Mark Cuban's name was long bandied about as a potential new owner for the Cubs, but he's never stated much publically about his decision-making process. This morning, in a rather lengthy blog entry, Cuban talked about his thoughts on the matter and how ultimately the credit crisis and economy were his undoing:
"Then the credit crisis hit and hit hard," he writes. "All of the sudden, what seemed like a sane business decision, didnt seem so sane any longer. In particular, the financial participations I had been discussing with my bankers were for shorter term loans. Just refinance at the end of the term. It's what everyone is doing. Except that it no longer seemed like a safe bet that I could refinance in a few years.
"With the credit market on the fritz, the other option was to add investors and just pay cash. However, if we were going to pay cash, I was not going to bid anywhere near 1 billion dollars for the assets."
"So there was the issue of valuation. There was also the issue of the economy. It was impossible to predict the full impact of these tough times on any sports team."

San Francisco 49ers long snapper Brian Jennings blogging career has been short, but he's brought the fire early and often.
After the season ended, he ran into John McEnroe in LA:
"On my way to AZ I stopped in LA (Pacific Palisades) to spend a few days with a doctor (Ed Wagner) I regularly visit," he writes. "While eating lunch in Malibu the other day, I saw John McEnroe. I stopped by his table and told him he is the 'greatest dude ever' (my life is so random)."
Jennings also is a certified a yoga instructor. You can check out a video of him talking about and practicing yoga here.

Greg Oden's blog game has slowed down now that he's playing this year, as opposed to hobbled up on the bench in his first go-round at a rookie campaign. There's been a lot said about the big man this year: he's moody, he's sad, he's putting too much pressure on himself and isn't having fun.
Though Oden hasn't directly responded to any of that in his blog, his latest entry does remind us how young and perhaps likely still confused about life he is.
"Sorry it's been so long my mind has been on the games," he writes. "It still feels weird to me that everyone I know that's my age is on break and I still have games on the holidays. In 21 days I have a birthday coming up my twenty first birthday, I've been counting down the days since last month."
