When the Dallas Cowboys move from Texas Stadium to Arlington in 2009, about the only thing they'll take with them is the hole in the roof. Their new 2.3 million-square-foot home's retractable ceiling will recreate that iconic opening (viewable from five miles up) to showcase an ultramodern football temple of, well, Texas-size proportions.

Stretching 1,000 feet long, the 80,000-seat glass structure will be the largest domed building on the planet, bookended by the world's biggest retractable doors, which will circulate stadium-cooling breezes. Exterior arches spanning one-quarter mile complete the giant silhouette. Inside, fans can watch replays on a 60-yard-long, state-of the-art video screen suspended 110 feet above the field.

"This building's going to make a huge impact on sports," boasts architect Bryan Trubey, a member of the stadium's design team, HSK Architects.

The Lone Star State wouldn't have it any other way.
