A Day (And Night) At the Playboy Golf Scramble
There are few things better than the combination of the hot Los Angeles sun, a perfectly swung golf club and some beautiful girls. So says just about every pro athlete who showed up for Playboy's Ninth Annual Golf Scramble in Industry Hills, CA last weekend.
"This is why you work hard all year, so you can enjoy stuff like this when you get time off," says Cowboys receiver Austin Miles. Four-time Pro Bowl DB Lawyer Milloy was a bit more succinct. "Come on we're guys, who wouldn't love this?"
Yeah teeing off was fun but just like the Pro Bowl, most guys were looking ahead to the next night's festivities.
That would be the V.I.P Lingerie & Pajama Party at the Playboy Mansion where libations flowed freely, flash bulbs popped ceaselessly and everybody seemed to be having the time of their lives. Basically what could best be described as an adolescent fantasy come to life. "This is simply not reality," said one befuddled guest. "I can't turn my head fast enough."
But the most eye-popping sight of the night was seven-foot baby-faced Lakers center Andrew Bynum mixing it up on the checkerboard dance floor while seven or eight beauties vied for his attention. The winner was January 2002 Playmate Nicole Narain who was rewarded by Bynum hoisting her onto his lofty shoulders. Said Narain: "I can't believe how tall he is! I mean he's nice, but he's very young."
So you're saying his knee should be ready to go for the Lakers title run?
"What's wrong with his knee?"
Moving on. The grotto was a bit smaller than expected and according to several party guests the water was "freezing cold". No matter, the traffic in and out of the famed cavern was still worse than the 405 freeway.
The zoo was basically off limits and no one seemed to mind. (It was rumored that earlier in the week one of the monkeys bit a playmate so that might have had something t do with it.)
The question of whatever happened to comedian Tommy Davidson, who had disappeared earlier in the night, was answered when he was spotted taking pictures at the party with Playmates and fans alike. About halfway through the evening Entourage stars Kevin Connolly (Eric) and Jerry Ferrara (Turtle) showed up minus Kevin Dillon (Johnny Drama) who allegedly shot one heck of a round the day before. Kim Kardashian was also spotted sans Reggie Bush.
But for many the highlight of the night was the arrival of the man himself, Hugh Hefner, with three of his blond better halves in tow. One of them was not Kendra Wilkinson, who recently became engaged to Philadelphia Eagles wideout Hank Baskett after meeting him at last year's golf tournament. Hef was quickly ushered by his security detail to a roped off area in a large white tent behind the kitchen where most of the partying took place. Twenty minutes later after the crowd of gawkers grew too large, he called it a night and made the three-minute walk back inside the Mansion.
