Needs To Be Discussed: Are the Mets Cursed?

Junot Diaz would have a field day writing about the Mets of the last three years.
Before you read this and spam us as haters, just know 'dis: our dad is a huge, almost-broke-a-TV-because-of-Armando-Benitez-a-couple-of-times Mets fan. We like the organization. But let's run down a few things: the 2007 meltdown. (Well-documented.) The 2008 meltdown. (Also well-documented.) Arch-rivals win the 2008 World Series, ending a huge drought of their own for a city. Last night, Mets open Citi Field against a Padres team some think could lose 100 games. (They do look good right now.) Not only do they lose the game, but they lose it in part because Met exiles Duaner Sanchez and Heath Bell handcuff 'em in later innings. When this season is over, will the Mets have more wins than the Padres? Likely, yes. Does April 13th really matter? Likely, no. But seriously…if you even believe in curses, are the Mets cursed? Before you scream "Cubs," just remember this: if the Cubbies make the playoffs this year, it'll be the third straight year they've done that. Can ya say that about the Mets? Argue with us if you want.
