King for a Day: Landing in Indy with Richard Petty

Planes, choppers, racecars, and golf carts…a lot of golf carts. Such is a typical day in the life of Richard Petty, aka The King of Stock Car Racing. Nary a week goes by in his 71-year-old life that doesn't involve some sort of jet-setting cross-country promotional appearance for a sponsor or a trip to a racetrack to watch the four Sprint Cup teams of Richard Petty Motorsports.
But on this Memorial Day weekend, The King's itinerary got kicked up a notch, as he zigzagged between the Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, NC and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, IN some 600 miles to the northwest. Why? Because he was also fielding a Petty Blue 43 car in the Indy 500 for John Andretti. Only this one came without fenders.
Per the generous invitation from His Royal Fastness, The Mag decided to try and keep up during his Double Duty day, and we took a camera.
So bring your cowboy hat, earplugs, and your Sharpies—a lot of Sharpies—and hang on.
