ESPNTheMag.Com: A Brief Video History

Keep 'em rolling, ESPNTheMag.Com video.
If you go here and click on "Original Digitals," then look at the sub-category "ESPN The Magazine," you'll see we've produced 275 videos at present. We've actually deleted a bunch out of that player over time, so we've produced over 300.
Huh -- magazines make videos?
Yea, they do. Not to be glib, but there are mad content options out there for people these days. The videos we made did, hopefully, two things -- (1) enriched the experience of people visiting this site or reading ESPN The Magazine features on this site and (2) helped build a cross-platform product with ESPN television (where a bunch of these videos ran).
As for actual videos, here's some you may enjoy.
We asked Lyndsey Read, a main video producer here, and she listed the Dhani Jones "Something Else I Do" video as among her favorites.
We asked Stevland Wilson, another video producer here, and he listed this Hofstra football players piece and the Pittsburgh Steelers cover shoot video as among his faves.
We asked Stephanie Maggiore, a Production Assistant in our video unit, and she nodded to a bunch of videos, primarily the "On the Verge" series we did with Chris Broussard and the top picks in the 2008 NBA Draft. Those are all archived here if you'd like to view 'em.
Cover shoots -- ah yes. We did a ton of those. Check out this one with Chad Ochocinco and this one with Kimbo Slice as cool, albeit different, examples.
ESPN The Magazine editor-in-chief Gary Belsky has praised the Mag's online video as representative of the Magazine's overall desire to show athletes as they really are, and if you want a good example of that concept, check this shoot we did with Michael Beasley and Kevin Durant.
We've done big names -- check senior writer Chris Broussard with LeBron James.
We've done small names -- this kid is a champion "cup-stacker."
One of the cooler things we did are these "video diaries." It's not an unique concept, but it was sweet. Here's one from expected 2009 NBA Draft No. 1 pick Blake Griffin.
Sometimes, we filmed athletes working out. For example, ya wanna know why Heath Bell is having a pretty good MLB season so far? You should watch this video.
Biggest overall video project we ever did was prolly A Season in the Stands, completely archived right here.
Interestingly, this might be the funniest video we've ever produced.
That's probably enough for a sample; if you'd like to see basically every video we ever made, please go here. And remember -- just because ESPN The Magazine content is going behind a pay wall doesn't mean you can't check out this video anyway. Look for it there (ESPN Insider) and on ESPN TV.
