Is Nastia Liukin the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Lucky Charm?

Olympic gold-medal winning gymnast Nastia Liukin was given first-pitch honors before Wednesday’s Atlanta Braves-Pittsburgh Pirates game at PNC Park. She sadly didn’t do any flips or cartwheels like McKayla Maroney, but she did manage to throw a pretty respectable toss that went down to the plate and directly to the catcher in just one try. You hear that, Bob Costas?

And while I don’t have any scientific evidence to prove this, the pitch seemed to be a lucky charm for the Pirates, who broke a seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory. No word yet on if the team has begged Liukin to throw out every first pitch for the rest of the regular season.
