Happy Birthday Tanya Harding

Tanya Harding may have a similar name to one of the most controversial women in sports history, but her four medals make her Olympic record considerably different.

Happy birthday, Tanya Harding! The four-time Olympic softball player with the memorable name turns 42 today. The pitcher led the Australian team to four consecutive Olympics and won three bronze medals (1996, 2000, 2008) and one silver in 2004. Harding played for UCLA for one year in 1995 and went 17-1. The Bruins won the NCAA championship and she was named the tournament’s MVP, but -- much like her similarly named figure skating counterpart -- the title was later stripped and vacated from the record books due to scholarship violations. Harding retired from softball in 2008 and now works for a recruiting company that helps place talented Australian athletes at American universities. There is no record of her ever meeting that other famous Harding.
