Lamar Odom hits out at 'absent' dad
Lamar Odom, breaking weeks of silence on his current state of mind, tweeted on Tuesday about what he describes as a very "dark time" and how his "absent" father is to blame for his "downfall."
The 33-year-old NBA veteran, posting an extended message via his Twitter account, broke his silence in a rare emotional outburst. He spoke out against what he called his father passing on his "demons" and damaging comments his father had tossed off about his wife and in-laws.
He also admitted in his statement that he's been going through a "dark time" and that the "only person 2 blame is myself."
Won't continue 2 speak on this but I have got 2 let this out real quick. I have let this man and many others (cont) http://t.co/ACFVHjkevg— LAMAR ODOM (@RealLamarOdom) September 25, 2013
The husband of reality TV star Khloe Kardashian was apparently responding to an interview his father gave earlier Tuesday in which he blamed the Kardashian family for his son's problems.
Earlier this month, Odom checked out of a rehabilitation center after just one day, according to a report on People.com, and a source told ESPN that friends were trying to help him deal with a drug problem.
TMZ also reported that people close to Odom feared he was involved with drugs.
Odom was charged earlier this month with a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence, nearly two weeks after his Mercedes-Benz was pulled over on a Southern California freeway.
Odom was arrested early Aug. 30 on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to police. He was jailed on $15,000 bail and released at that time.
He spent last season with the Los Angeles Clippers and had been pursued in free agency this summer by the Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers.
Odom had his best years during his seven seasons with the Lakers, beginning in 2004-05. The team won NBA championships in 2009 and '10, and Odom won the NBA's Sixth Man Award in 2011.
