AFL Power Rankings (last week's ranking)
Dallas 1(2). Dallas (2-0)
Last week: Beat Tampa Bay 59-40
This week: at Kansas City
A big game by QB Clint Dolezel (8 TDs) and some key defensive stops late in the game finally put away Tampa Bay.
Dallas 2(6). Georgia (2-0)
Last week: Beat Austin 60-51
This week: at Tampa Bay
A solid game by QB Chris Greisen (7 TDs) helped, but the real story was a Force defense that sacked Austin QB Adrian McPherson four times and dominated in the trenches.
Philadelphia 3(3). Philadelphia (1-0)
Last week: Beat Nashville 63-30
This week: at Grand Rapids
They looked like a scary team in their opener on the road, combining an aggressive defense with great pressure and a solid offensive performance.
Utah 4(7). Utah (2-0)
Last week: Beat Arizona 75-71
This week: vs. Nashville
QB Joe Germaine (433 yards and 10 TDs) is really adapting to the indoor game, even with a thin receiving corps (injuries). The offense was perfect in the second half to eke out the win.
Orlando 5(1). Orlando (1-1)
Last week: Lost to Los Angeles 44-37 (OT)
This week: vs. Austin
The offense struggled early versus unexpected man-to-man defense and finally rallied late, but it wasn't enough as the Predators looked sluggish and sloppy in a tough home loss.
Chicago 6(9). Chicago (1-1)
Last week: Beat San Jose 48-45
This week: vs. New York
A sold-out home arena helped the Rush sneak by a good San Jose team. The offense played well and with poise to withstand a fourth-quarter comeback by the Sabercats.
Utah 7(4). San Jose (1-1)
Last week: Lost to Chicago 48-45
This week: Bye
In a tough road environment they got off to a slow start against Chicago. QB Mark Grieb led a solid comeback in the 4th quarter, but it wasn't enough. Sabercats have a brutal early schedule.
Colorado 8 (8). Colorado (1-1)
Last week: Beat Kansas City 44-40
This week: vs. Arizona
It was not a perfect game by the underachieving Crush but they played just enough defense in the 4th quarter to thwart the Brigade. Colorado should continue to get better.
Chicago 9(14). Los Angeles (1-1)
Last week: Beat Orlando 44-37 (OT)
This week: Bye
The Avengers played an excellent defensive game early with a lot of man-to-man coverages as they shocked the Predators in Orlando. QB Sonny Cumbie played a solid game.
Austin 10(5). Austin (1-1)
Last week: Lost to Georgia 60-51
This week: at Orlando
The Wranglers played hard but they had no answer for the George pass rush (4 sacks). QB Adrian McPherson never had time to get in the groove.
Las Vegas 11(18). Las Vegas (1-1)
Last week: Beat Grand Rapids 79-69
This week: at New Orleans
WR Kevin Prentiss scored a record nine TDs in a surprising win at Grand Rapids, and QB Shaun King played a solid game versus a thin Rampage defense hit with injuries.
New Orleans 12(15). New Orleans (1-1)
Last week: Beat Columbus 52-45
This week: at Las Vegas
In front of 17,000 fans, the VooDoo played an inspired game that went right down to the wire. A solid game by QB Andy Kelly and a couple of key defensive stops were the keys.
Columbus 13(11). Columbus (1-1)
Last week: Lost to New Orleans 52-45
This week: Bye
They played hard in a tough road environment and took this game right down to the end, but they couldn't convert their last drive into a winning TD.
Los Angeles 14(12). Kansas City (1-1)
Last week: Lost to Colorado 44-40
This week: vs. Dallas
They got a nice game from QB Raymond Philyaw, but they couldn't make enough big plays in the 4th quarter to steal it.
Grand Rapids 15(10). Grand Rapids
Last week: Lost to Las Vegas 79-69
This week: vs. Philadelphia
With a defense weakened by injuries, the Rampage had no answer for Prentiss (9 TDs). QB problems are an issue for the Rampage.
Arizona 16(13). Arizona (0-2)
Last week: Lost to Utah 75-71
This week: at Colorado
They can move the ball on offense, but defensively they had no answer for Utah QB Joe Germaine. The Rattlers must get better on defense to stay competitive.
Tampa Bay 17(16). Tampa Bay (0-2)
Last week: Lost to Dallas 59-40
This week: vs. Georgia
The Storm stayed competitive with a short passing game for three quarters, but the Desperados turned on the defensive heat in the 4th quarter.
Nashville 18(17). Nashville (0-2)
Last week: Lost to Philadelphia 63-30
This week: at Grand Rapids
Philadelphia applied huge defensive pressure and the Kats' QBs couldn't get anything going. Nashville has a lot of work to do.
New York 19(19). New York (0-1)
Last week: Bye
This week: at Chicago
Hopefully for N.Y. , the bye week provided time to fix some problems. But with QB concerns and an upcoming game against a focused Chicago Rush team, it doesn't look promising for New York.
