Blaze reach playoffs; Burley is first AFL WR to reach 2,000 yards in a year
LOS ANGELES -- Utah wide receiver Siaha Burley became the first player in Arena Football League history with 2,000 yards receiving in a season and the Blaze qualified for the playoffs with a 47-37 win over the Los Angeles Avengers on Saturday night.
A week after setting new season records for receptions (155) and yards receiving (1,996), Burley caught 11 passes for 133 yards and three scores. With the win, the Blaze (8-8) clinched the final playoff spot in the American Conference, eliminating the Nashville Kats, who won earlier Saturday.
Utah Quarterback Joe Germaine completed 20 of 35 passes for 224 yards and five touchdowns.
Kevin Ingram caught eight passes for 137 yards and three scores, but Los Angeles quarterbacks were intercepted six times.
Los Angeles (9-7) clinched a playoff spot last week.
