Combie tosses 7 TDs as Avengers rally to vanquish Voodoo

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Sonny Combie completed 23 of 38 passes for 268 yards and seven touchdowns and the Los Angeles Avengers rallied to beat the New Orleans VooDoo 59-42 on Friday night in the first game of the Arena Football League season.

Timon Marshall caught nine passes for 116 yards and three scores. Kevin Ingram had eight catches for 79 yards and a touchdown for the Avengers, who won their first playoff game in 2007.

Wendall Williams returned the opening kickoff 54 yards for a touchdown for New Orleans, which led 33-28 at the half.

VooDoo quarterback Steve Bellisari finished 20-of-38 for 210 yards. He threw three touchdown passes, all in the first half, and was intercepted three times. B.J. Barre caught seven passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

New Orleans is looking to bounce back from a fourth-place finish in the Southern Division in 2007.
