Grieb throws six TDs to lead SaberCats past Rampage
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (ESPN.com news services) -- San Jose (1-1) picked up its first win of the season, getting by Grand Rapids (0-1) 66-58 on Monday.
Mark Grieb threw six touchdown passes to lead the SaberCats. Grieb was 22-of-36 for 228 yards.
Rodney Wright added three touchdowns for San Jose off seven catches for 79 yards.
Adrian McPherson was 17-of-30 for 230 yards and four touchdowns and also ran for two scores for the Rampage. Kenny Higgins led all receivers with seven catches for 146 yards and three touchdowns.
Down 13-0 four minutes into the game, San Jose reeled off 21 consecutive points. The surge was sparked by Ron Jones' first career TD after he scooped up a Rampage fumble and ran 12 yards for the score.
Grand Rapids pulled within one point late in the fourth period after Ahmad Hawkins' 52-yard kickoff return. Wright hooked up with Grieb on the ensuing possession to extend the SaberCats' lead back to eight.
