Rampage move on to conference championship with upset of Rush

ROSEMONT. Ill. (AP) -- James MacPherson threw for 326 yards and had a hand in seven touchdowns, and the Grand Rapids Rampage upset the Chicago Rush 58-41 on Sunday to advance to the Arena Football League conference finals.

Kenny Higgins had 14 catches for 167 yards and three touchdowns and WR Cole Magner contributed 15 catches for 117 yards and two scores for the Rampage (8-10), who reached the playoffs with a sub-.500 record and had lost to Chicago twice during the regular season.

Grand Rapids will visit defending champion San Jose on Saturday for the American Conference title. The winner advances to the Arena Bowl in New Orleans on July 27.

MacPherson set a team record with 33 completions on 39 attempts, throwing six touchdown passes and running for a score.

Russ Michna went 19-for-32 for 252 yards and five touchdowns with one interception for top-seeded Chicago, the Central Division champions.

"They played a very strong game," Chicago coach Mike Hohensee said. "They had a very good gameplan and they executed it very well. I think we had some opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of every chance we had. They did. I thought nearly all of their players did an outstanding job."

Travis LaTendresse had seven catches for 115 yards and three touchdowns, and rookie of the year Donovan Morgan added six catches for 71 yards and two scores.
