Philly continues reign atop MLL power rankings
The Philadelphia Barrage have yet to play a game, but appear to be locked and loaded as they prepare for the 2007 season. Power Rankings
1. Philadelphia Barrage
Building the right mix of talent and chemistry is difficult, but Philly has been able to keep together top-caliber players like Colsey, Sweeney, Spallina and Boyle. Last week: 1.
2. Denver Outlaws
Denver is the deepest team in the West, if not the entire MLL.
Last week: 2.
3. Boston Cannons
A season-opening win against Washington bumps them up in the rankings. Last week: 6.
4. Rochester Rattlers
On paper, this team is solid. Walters, Grant, Powell and Merrill are all superstars who should lead Rochester against the East's top teams. Last week: 4.
5. Washington Bayhawks
Conor Gill and Ryan Curtis are nice additions to a team that has an impressive young foundation. But the season-opening loss raises concerns. Last week: 3.
6. Long Island Lizards
The Lizards are stacked with veteran talent, but injuries hampered their '06 run. Last week: 5.
7. San Francisco Dragons
They've made improvements, but this team is about Powell for now and the near future. Last week: 7.
8. New Jersey Pride
The young midfield has seen significant MLL minutes, the vets are still a threat to score and the face-off crew could be formidable. Their history in the league is against them, though, and overcoming that will be their first task. Last week: 8.
9. L.A. Riptide
A lot of questions remain unanswered in Los Angeles. Do they have enough bodies to run with the league's top teams? Will the youth step up and fill in the roster effectively? Last week: 9.
10. Chicago Machine
No place to go but up. This team has a core of young talent that's learning to play together, and that will eventually lead to some victories. Last week: 10.
