Sources: Strikeforce plans Vegas debut
For the first time in promotion history, Strikeforce is planning an event in Las Vegas.
Sources have confirmed to ESPN.com the promotion intends to bring its Strikeforce Challengers series to Las Vegas on July 22. The card will most likely take place at The Pearl at The Palms casino, which has hosted UFC events in the past.
No fight matchups have been announced for the summer show, although sources say the date is expected to be the first of multiple Strikeforce Challengers cards held in Las Vegas.
Since its first event in 2006, Strikeforce has promoted shows across the United States but never in Nevada. The news of its Las Vegas debut comes just months after Zuffa Inc., parent company of the UFC, purchased the promotion for an undisclosed amount.
The Strikeforce Challengers series is currently scheduled to air its 16th show on June 24 at Showare Center in Kent, Wash. The Las Vegas show will likely be Strikeforce Challengers 17.
