Fantasy Game Notes for Saturday: American League

Yankee Stadium (outdoor) 1:05 p.m. ET (high of 44 degrees, slight chance of snow)
Steve Trachsel, RHP (0-0) versus Kei Igawa, LHP (0-0)

Notable Injuries: Jay Payton, OF (hamstring, DL); Ramon Hernandez, C (strained oblique, out); Paul Bako, C (elbow, day-to-day); Johnny Damon, OF (calf, day-to-day)

Game Story: Trachsel knows these Yankees from his "Subway Series" as a Met in New York; he has a 3.58 ERA in nine career starts against them. But this is a different Trachsel today; he's 36 and coming off his worst season since 1999. Derek Jeter owns him, with a .391 batting average, three homers and a 1.244 OPS in 23 at-bats, but you wouldn't sit him or other Yankees anyway. Melky Cabrera could earn another start if Damon sits out (which looks likely), so give him a shot. Igawa makes his major-league debut in this one, and could give an impatient, left-handed-heavy team like the Orioles some trouble. Jay Gibbons and Corey Patterson in particular are risky starts.

Kauffman Stadium (outdoor) 2:10 p.m. ET (high of 39 degrees, clear)
Mike Maroth, LHP (0-0) versus Gil Meche, RHP (1-0)

Notable Injuries: Octavio Dotel, RP (strained oblique, DL)

Game Story: Maroth has long struggled against right-handers, so news that Reggie Sanders should earn a start in this one makes him an interesting one-day add. Sanders has faced Maroth four times in his career and doubled twice. Don't fear David DeJesus; he's a .471 hitter with a 1.072 OPS in 34 at-bats against the lefty. Meche, meanwhile, is coming off a stellar outing against the Red Sox, so don't rule out a repeat against the Tigers, a right-handed heavy lineup. Brandon Inge's career record against him -- .400 (6-for-15) -- makes him a nice start.

U.S. Cellular Field (outdoor) 3:55 p.m. ET (high of 33 degrees, chance of snow)
Sidney Ponson, RHP (0-0) versus Javier Vazquez (0-0)

Notable Injuries: Jeff Cirillo, DH (knee, day-to-day); Toby Hall, C (torn labrum, DL); Mark Buehrle, SP (bruised forearm, day-to-day).

Game Story: Friday night's starters have been moved to Saturday due to postponement. Here's what Adam Madison wrote, it still applies. Vazquez, normally a homer-prone pitcher, allowed a career-low 23 home runs last year, along with a 3.28 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Vazquez had a .311 BABIP last year, a fair bit above the average, and, if he can sustain his peripheral stats, is as good a bet as any pitcher to improve this season. I'm really quite surprised to see him owned in only 37.5 percent of ESPN leagues. Outside of the big three (Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau and Michael Cuddyer), Minnesota's lineup does not hit right-handers well, making Vazquez one of the better spot starts today.

Jacobs Field (outdoor) 1:05 and 7:05 p.m. ET (daytime high of 32 with a 90 percent chance of snow; evening low of 26 degrees with 80 percent chance of snow)
Game 1: PPD

Notable Injuries: Cliff Lee, SP (abdominal strain, DL).

Game 1 Story: The doubleheader has been postponed and will be partially made up on Sunday, April 8.

Tropicana Field (indoor) 7:10 p.m. ET
Tomo Ohka, RHP (0-0) versus Casey Fossum, LHP (0-0)

Notable Injuries: Dioner Navarro, C (hamstring, day-to-day); Greg Norton, DH (knee, DL)

Game Story: This will be Ohka's first AL start since 2001, and Tampa Bay's offense is underrated, so be careful expecting much. Ty Wigginton's the man most familiar, with three homers and a .385 average in 13 at-bats against Ohka, but also look to the red-hot Elijah Dukes, Akinori Iwamura and B.J. Upton as solid starters. Meanwhile, it's a fine matchup for Toronto's offense, too. Aaron Hill's 10-for-16 lifetime against Fossum, and Frank Thomas has three homers in eight at-bats. Think big on Gregg Zaun; he killed lefties in 2006 (.373 AVG, 1.119 OPS, 63 PAs).

Rangers Ballpark (outdoor) 8:05 p.m. ET (low of 33 degrees, 50 percent chance of rain and snow.)
Julian Tavarez, RHP (0-0) versus Kevin Millwood, RHP (0-1)

Notable Injuries: Mike Timlin, RP (strained oblique, DL); Eric Gagne, RP (elbow, DL)

Game Story: Tavarez -- 5.04 ERA and 1.602 WHIP career as a starter -- isn't a good start at Rangers Ballpark. But that's great news for the Rangers, especially after winning their first game of the season on Friday. This is no cakewalk for Texas, but don't fear Frank Catalanotto, Kenny Lofton, Gerald Laird et all in this one. The team should get better at home. For Boston, not like you'd sit him, but David Ortiz has to be happy to see Kevin Millwood; he's 7-for-13 with five homers lifetime against the right-hander. Avoid Millwood if you can, as he's facing Boston and had a 5.38 home ERA in 2006. Be warned; the forecast of April snow in Texas makes this game a candidate for postponement.

Angel Stadium (outdoor) 9:05 p.m. ET (low of 49 degrees)
Dan Haren, RHP (0-1) versus John Lackey, RHP (1-0)

Notable Injuries: Milton Bradley, OF (side, day-to-day); Shea Hillenbrand, 1B (groin, day-to-day); Chone Figgins, 3B (broken fingers, DL)

Game Story: Two of the AL's better starters facing off should mean a relatively low-scoring game, free of many great spot-starting candidates. Red-hot Casey Kotchman warrants a look, and Garret Anderson's a .429 career hitter (9-for-21) against Haren, but steer clear of Gary Matthews Jr., a .133 hitter (4-for-30) against the righty. Nick Swisher has trouble with Lackey; he's 4-for-32 with 19 strikeouts. Oakland's offense has struggled early, especially in the power department, so keep your expectations low.

Fantasy Game Notes for Saturday: National League

Miller Park (indoor/retractable roof) 1:05 p.m. ET
Carlos Zambrano, RHP (0-1) versus Ben Sheets, RHP (1-0)

Notable Injuries: Kerry Wood, RP (shoulder, DL)

Game Story: A good ol' fashioned pitching duel is what we expect here, possibly with a save involved. It's not a bad day to start Ryan Dempster, just in case. This probably won't be the day to start your speedsters, though. The Brewers did not steal a single base off Zambrano last season, while Ben Sheets allows fewer than one for every two starts he makes. Save Ryan Theriot for another day.

Turner Field (outdoor) 3:55 p.m. ET (high of 50 degrees, partly cloudy)
Tom Glavine, LHP (1-0) versus John Smoltz, RHP (0-0)

Notable Injuries: Duaner Sanchez, RP (shoulder, DL); Willy Aybar, 3B (hand, DL)

Game Story: Tom Glavine is in tough against his former team. Andruw Jones (lifetime 1.101 OPS against), Edgar Renteria (.938) and Jeff Francoeur (.966) will all be happy to see him. A lefty on the mound means Craig Wilson starts and Scott Thorman sits. Moises Alou was recommended for Friday, but he's a bench candidate for Saturday thanks to a lifetime .179 average with 10 strikeouts and no home runs against Smoltz.

AT&T Park (outdoor) 3:55 p.m. ET (mild, 40 percent chance of rain)
Derek Lowe, RHP (0-1) versus Russ Ortiz, RHP (0-0)

Notable Injuries: Rafael Furcal, SS (sprained ankle, DL); Hong-Chih Kuo, SP (shoulder, DL)

Game Story: Ladies and gentlemen, start your Dodgers. Russ Ortiz has been brutal for three years now, and that's especially true against left-handed bats. Andre Ethier, Luis Gonzalez and the switch-hitting Wilson Betemit could all have good days even before getting a shot at the Giants' bullpen. Derek Lowe is one of the game's best groundball pitchers and shouldn't have much trouble keeping the ball in the yard at AT&T, so today isn't the day to try out your fringe Giants. Pedro Feliz might be an exception, he owns a .310 lifetime average against Lowe.

Minute Maid Park (indoor/retractable roof) 7:05 p.m. ET
Anthony Reyes, RHP (0-0) versus Roy Oswalt, RHP (0-0)

Notable Injuries: Scott Spiezio, OF (back, day-to-day); Juan Encarnacion, OF (wrist, DL)

Game Story: Anthony Reyes makes his first appearance in a season where he's primed to bust out. The 25-year-old has 84 strikeouts in 98 career innings, a number he should be able to pad against the Astros' Craig Biggio, Chris Burke and Morgan Ensberg. He's available in more than 80 percent of ESPN leagues, so get him while you can. Roy Oswalt had a tidy 2.37 ERA in four starts against the division-rival Cardinals in 2006, so this one could come down to the bullpens; a sobering thought for both Brad Lidge and Jason Isringhausen owners.

RFK Stadium (outdoor) 7:05 p.m. ET (low of 28 degrees, 80 percent chance of rain or snow)
Brandon Webb, RHP (0-0) versus John Patterson, RHP (0-1)

Notable Injuries: Carlos Quentin, OF (partially torn labrum, DL); Jeff DaVanon, OF (shoulder surgery, DL); Stephen Drew, SS (quadriceps, day-to-day); Nook Logan, OF (strained foot, DL); Cristian Guzman, SS (hamstring, DL)

Game Story: On the surface, the Nationals are in way over their head against Brandon Webb, but there is a spot-start opportunity. Ryan Church is an eyebrow-raising 6-for-6 with 2 HRs against the defending Cy Young award winner. Start all your Diamondbacks with confidence. Tom Herrera reports in Tale of the Tape that John Patterson lacked both velocity and command in his first start of the season, likely a side-effect of a shortened spring training. Bench him if you value your ratios more than you do a handful of strikeouts and a very remote chance at a win.

Dolphin Stadium (outdoor) 7:05 p.m. ET (low of 53 degrees, 20 percent chance of rain)
Brett Myers, RHP (0-0) versus Dontrelle Willis, LHP (1-0)

Notable Injuries: Taylor Tankersley, RP (shoulder, DL); Jeremy Hermida, OF (bruised knee, DL)

Game Story: Another pitching duel is on deck as Brett Myers and Dontrelle Willis face off in Dolphin Stadium. There's no reason to look to the Marlins for spot-starts in this matchup, but we can mention Dan Uggla's success against Myers last season: .462 (6-for-13) with 2 HRs. He might even be a better start here than Chase Utley, who despite being the best second baseman in fantasy, is only 4-for-22 with no homers and 6 K's lifetime against the D-Train.

Great American Ball Park (outdoor) 7:10 p.m. ET (low of 17 degrees, chance of flurries)
Tony Armas, RHP (0-0) versus Aaron Harang, RHP (1-0)

Notable Injuries: Freddy Sanchez, 3B (sprained knee, DL); Josh Hamilton, OF (flu, day-to-day); Bill Bray, RP (finger, DL)

Game Story: Don't be too quick to dismiss the Pirates against Aaron Harang. Three of them have hit exceedingly well against him in their careers; Jack Wilson, .412 (14-for-34); Jason Bay, .438 (14-for-32), 4 HRs, 1.531 OPS and Chris Duffy, .467, (7-for-15), 1.267 OPS could make this a high-scoring game. Edwin Encarnacion has a short but impressive resume against Tony Armas. He's 3-for-4 with 2 home runs, and that number could climb quickly. Great American Ball Park is not a forgiving venue for fly ball pitchers like Armas, who isn't likely to repeat last season's six inning, two-hit, one-run performance at this place.

Petco Park (outdoor) 10:05 p.m. ET (low of 51 degrees)
Josh Fogg, RHP (0-0) versus David Wells, LHP (0-0)

Notable Injuries:None.

Game Story: With so many aces facing off, Fogg versus Wells is a matchup that seems ripe for hitter pick-ups, despite it being played out in Petco Park. Brian Giles and brother Marcus Giles both hit Fogg very well, and if Terrmel Sledge is going to have any success this season, this is the kind of match-up he needs to be successful in. All of Colorado's big bats were excellent against left-handers last season, except Brad Hawpe, who hit .232 against them. Don't be surprised if Jeff Baker, who is 12-for-36 (.352) lifetime against southpaws, sees his at-bats.

Waiver Wire Pickups

Elijah Dukes, OF, TB versus Toronto Blue Jays
