The Talented Mr. Roto: Rankings from this day forward

So if I were in a draft today, whom would I draft where? That was the assignment given out by senior editor Pete Becker to the fantasy staff. You'll see the group results Tuesday, but here's a sneak peak at mine.

Understand that these are my rankings with my personal biases. Which means I devalue closers quite a bit and emphasize speed and positional scarcity. These rankings also incorporate what I think will happen in the upcoming months. Yes, I think Eric Gagne loses his job and Joe Borowski comes back and gets his. Hey, I didn't say it was stuff I agreed with, just stuff I think will happen. I believe that Josh Fields and Chase Headley get recalled and produce better than some folks currently in the big leagues. That Mark Prior and Curt Schilling come back and have a good second half, and that Alex Rodriguez is out longer than folks think. You heard me.

As Stephania Bell said on the "ESPNEWS Fantasy Insider" show, Rodriguez could be out until the All-Star break. When you do rankings, especially for football, you always have to deal with injuries. And the way I do it is I decide whether a player is in or out. There is no middle ground. You either think a guy is going to play on Sunday or you do not. Same thing here. I don't think Rodriguez will play before the All-Star break, and if he does, he won't be running. So, my ranking is based on half a season of A-Rod.

And oh yeah. I like the Max Scherzer.

Matthew Berry -- The Talented Mr. Roto -- is ESPN's senior director of fantasy. He was just as surprised as you to find out it's a real job. He is a multiple award winner from the Fantasy Sports Writers Association, including a writer of the year award. He has been playing fantasy sports for more than 20 years, writing about it professionally for more than 10. He currently appears on or in ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEWS, ESPN the Magazine, ESPN.com, ESPN Mobile TV and, as soon as he learns to say "ground-ball/fly-ball ratio" in Spanish, ESPN Deportes.

Catch Matthew and Stephania Bell from Monday through Thursday on the "Baseball Tonight" Fantasy Minute.
