Start 'em, sit 'em

Troy Murphy has been hot recently, averaging more than 21 points with 11 3-pointers in his past three games. On the month, Murphy is averaging better than 17 points and nearly nine rebounds per game, and is a must-start, at least until Jermaine O'Neal returns. … Although he's owned in more than 80 percent of ESPN leagues, Marvin Williams hasn't done much in the past two months. Williams averaged just 11.7 points on 35.5 percent shooting in February, and while he has shot better this month (47.2 percent), his minutes have dropped and he's still averaging a hair above 12 points. Outside of field-goal percentage and points, Williams' contributions are few and far between, so feel free to drop him and grab a better player for the stretch run. … Raymond Felton is shooting (wait for it) 28.5 percent in his past five games, including four single-digit scoring games. Teammate Emeka Okafor hasn't been much better, with 16 combined points in his past three games, and going back further, just one game of more than 10 points in his past seven.

Waiver-wire pickups

Despite averaging 40 minutes, Al Thornton is just 10-for-36 in his past three games, and is converting less than 39 percent of his field goals in March. Tim Thomas, on the other hand, was averaging 19 points in the four full games preceding his unavailability due to a stomach virus. While there isn't a definitive word on whether Thomas will play Tuesday, he should be back soon, and is an above-average option on a team desperate for bodies. … Early reports have Dirk Nowitzki out for at least two weeks, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he is done for the rest of the season. Enter Brandon Bass, who has looked superb in various stints off the bench, but now should start and see an extended opportunity in the Mavericks' frontcourt. Expect scoring in the mid-teens, solid boards and blocks, and even a plus free-throw percentage (81.8 percent) for a big man.
