Fantasy football rankings summit

As the NFL and its players continue to go back and forth in the nation's court system, some of us have more important things to do: Plan for a 2011 fantasy football season that we can only assume will happen, one way or the other. So while there is still much to be determined -- from the who and the when of free agency to franchise tags to trades and everything in between -- our work must go on.

And so on Tuesday, May 3, the ESPN Fantasy team will hold its annual fantasy football rankings summit. For one whole day, we will debate rosters and roles, red-zone targets and goal-line tendencies, all in an effort to lay out a framework of our initial rankings and projections.

Why are we doing this now and not after the dust has settled on the labor situation? Well, there are a few reasons. First, and this falls into the "full disclosure" category, we and our friends at ESPN the Magazine intend to put out a draft guide publication, so there are print deadlines to consider. Second, later this month we intend to launch ESPN Fantasy Football, and you're going to need rankings to help you draft, whether mock or real. And finally, and most importantly, it's damned fun to do. And if we have to all get together and do the whole thing all over again in July, well, that's just a bitter pill our bosses are going to have to swallow.

As was the case for baseball, this year we're giving you, the fan, a taste of our process. In our Cover It Live application below, you'll have the opportunity to ask questions, make your voice heard in instant polls and get a sneak preview of some of the rankings. We are scheduled to begin around 8 a.m. ET. Enjoy!

Note: These rankings are based on ESPN standard-league scoring.
