Open ratings down 4 percent
NEW YORK -- The British Open's final-round overnight TV
ratings dropped 4 percent from last year.
ABC Sports' telecast of Ben Curtis' stunning victory drew a 4.7
rating, down from the 4.9 when Ernie Els won a four-way playoff in
2002.
The rating is the percentage of all homes with TVs, whether or
not they are in use. Overnight ratings measure the 55 largest TV
markets in the United States, covering nearly 70 percent of the
country.
Each overnight rating point represents about 735,000 TV homes.
