Despite fall in stature, Hope still a blast
LA QUINTA, Calif. -- The PGA Tour's been coming here to the desert for a long time. The tournament was once up there with the Crosby Clambake, but now, for whatever reason, the glitter has gone.
Inside the Kaddy Korner
Mark Huber has been a professional caddie since March 1988. After initially spending just six months on the job with grad school, law school or the Peace Corps in his future plans, Huber got hooked and has been carrying golf clubs and calculating yardage for a living ever since.
He worked for three-time PGA Tour winner Robert Gamez from July 2007 until the end of the 2008 season. Huber also has done stints with other well-known players, such as Bob Murphy on the Champions Tour. When Steve Williams got the job as Tiger Woods' caddie, Huber replaced Williams on Raymond Floyd's bag.
Huber, who had aspirations of playing pro baseball as a kid, has worked for 50 players on nearly every tour imaginable while logging an estimated 60,000 driving miles each year. He has worked for players on what he estimates as 20 victories in his career.
