In 1970, Mrs. Stanley Richter donated her farm of more than 120 acres to the city of Danbury for recreational purposes only. The city decided to construct an 18-hole golf course governed by a nine-member volunteer board.

The end result is a golf course that has developed into one of the country's most highly rated public facilities, having been named one of the top 25 public courses in the country according to Golf Digest.

Richter Park also is one of the most challenging courses in the northeast with numerous water holes, including the par-3 third.
