Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Links
Pacific Grove, California

The toughest tee time on the Monterey Peninsula isn't Pebble Beach Golf Links. It's little Pacific Grove Municipal, a few miles up the coast. This modest 18 weathers 100,000 rounds a year, compared with 60,000 at Pebble.

The front nine opened in 1932 and the back nine, designed by Pebble Beach architect Jack Neville, opened in 1960. In fact, this seaside course has been dubbed "The Poor Man's Pebble Beach." One of the reasons: the $36 green fee is about one-tenth that of Pebble.
