This Donald Ross course is a gem, but don't hit your approach above the hole or you could be three-putting.

Taconic has hosted three USGA events: The 1956 Junior Amateur, 1963 Women's Amateur and the 1996 Senior Amateur. And the course, a wonderfully underrated Donald Ross gem is the perfect setting for amateur play as the course is devoid of any heavy handedness by the architect.

The intimate routing (18 holes are squeezed into 130 acres) presents several natural green sites. In addition, there is plenty of room off the tee but that's merely a tease. Players above the hole on the undulating greens may need divine intervention to avoid three-putting.
