Travelers to Royal Portrush, the only Irish course to host the British Open (1951), are urged to arrive via the Antrim Coast Road because of its spectacular views of the Portrush links. Narrow, curving fairways, a noticeable absence of sand traps and greens guarded by natural hills, hollows, mounds and runnels characterize the Dunluce course. Scotland's Brian Barnes captured back-to-back Senior British Open titles here in 1995 and 1996.

Considered by many to be the finest course in all of Ireland, Royal Portrush is the only Irish course to have hosted the British Open, having done so in 1951. Max Faulkner won that event by two strokes over Argentina's Tony Cerda.
