The second hole at Somerset Hills is a 175-yard par-3 with a green that is protected by five bunkers. The green also is modeled after the famous Redan hole at Scotland's North Berwick, and falls away diagonally (sloping severely from right to left) from the player and is protected by a front bunker that gobbles up balls hit short.

The course, which opened in 1917 and was designed by noted golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast, has hosted two U.S. Girls' Juniors and the Curtis Cup matches. Among its members is Ben Crenshaw, who was given an honorary membership shortly after captaining the 1999 U.S. Ryder Cup squad to victory.
