Carlsbad, California

One look at Aviara's beautiful surroundings and you'll wish the club's landscape architect would work on your backyard. That feeling is even stronger after playing a hole such as No. 8, which presents an eye-catching array of water, rocks, and native plantings.

Aviara ranked fifth in Golf Digest's Best New Resort Courses for 1992. The 7,007-yard, par 72 Arnold Palmer/Ed Seay design took nearly 10 years to build because of the discovery and relocation by archeologists of 16 separate ancient Indian burial grounds.
