GLEN ALLEN, Va. -- Rookie Chad Collins won his first
Nationwide Tour event Sunday, closing with a 5-under 67 for a
two-stroke victory at the Henrico County Open.
Collins, who shared the lead after three rounds, birdied his
first four holes and five of the opening six at The Dominion Club
on the way to a 21-under 267, two shots better than Tom Scherrer
"Getting off to a fast start couldn't have worked out any
better," Collins said. "Making birdies on the first four holes
was a nice bonus and gave me a cushion going into the tough holes.
I didn't have any dreams it would start like that, but you always
hope that it does."
The 26-year-old Collins won in his 16th Nationwide start and
earned $80,000, moving from 40th to seventh on the money list with
"I needed a breakthrough and luckily it was this week," said
Collins, a four-time All-American at Division III Methodist College
in Fayetteville, N.C.
Dicky Pride shot a career-best 10-under 62 and finished in a
four-way tie for third place with Ken Duke (66), Bill Lunde (69)
and Jon Mills (69) at 18 under.
Camilo Villegas, who shared the lead after three rounds, closed
with a 71 and finished seventh.
