Parry, Rumford tied for lead at Jacob's Creek
ADELAIDE, Australia -- Australian veteran Craig Parry took advantage of calm afternoon conditions Friday to shoot an 8-under 64 and join countryman Brett Rumford with a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the Jacob's Creek Open.
Parry and Rumford, who shot 69 Friday, have 9-under totals of 135 on the par-72 Kooyonga course in the tournament that is being sanctioned by the Australasian PGA and Nationwide tours.
Peter Senior (68) is a stroke back and tied for third with former Australian Open champion Greg Chalmers (69) and American Brad Ott (70).
"The golf course really laid down this afternoon, the winds more or less died," said Parry. "It stopped all together. It was very pleasant out there. The guys this morning really got the tough end of the draw."
Rumford said he expected veterans like Parry and Senior to be among the leaders.
"It's funny how I said yesterday the old boys have got a bit of golf left in them," Rumford said.
Five players were tied for sixth, two strokes off the lead -- American Roger Tambellini (68), Scott Gardiner (69), and fellow Australians Steve Jeffress, Andrew Pitt and Anthony Brown, all with 70s.
Overnight leader David Lutterus, a member at Kooyonga, shot 75 Friday in windier morning conditions after an opening 64. The 21-year-old part-time bartender is at 5 under and four back of the leaders.
Former U.S. PGA champion Wayne Grady of Australia was among those missing the cut. His pair of 73s and 2-over 146 were not enough to qualify him for weekend play.
