Woods wins ninth straight McCormack Award
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Surprise, surprise. Tiger Woods has won another award, just for being the best player around.
The governing board of the Official World Golf Ranking announced Wednesday that Woods is the recipient of the 2006 Mark H. McCormack Award, presented annually to the player who holds the No. 1 position on the ranking for the greatest number of weeks in each calendar year. He has won every year since the award was started in 1998.
Woods held the top position on the Official World Golf Ranking for 52 consecutive weeks last year, maintaining his No. 1 ranking which started his latest run after the 2005 Booz Allen Classic.
Overall, Tiger has held the No. 1 ranking 434 weeks, including 264 consecutive weeks from Aug. 15, 1999 to Aug. 29, 2004.
