The 31-year-old fired a final round three-under 69 to finish two strokes ahead of Tiger Woods and Retief Goosen and Rory Sabbatini at Augusta National.
Johnson, who started the week in 56th position, became the first player from outside the world's top-50 to win the Masters since the official rankings started 21 years ago.
