Wie doesn't submit qualifying application for tourney
Michelle Wie didn't qualify for the 2006 U.S. Open, and she won't qualify for this year's tournament either.
Wie wasn't among the 8,544 golfers to submit qualifying applications for this year's U.S. Open, the U.S. Golf Association said. Wie family spokesman Jesse Derris declined to give Bloomberg News a reason for her decision.
In attempting to qualify for last year's tournament, Wie, then 16, tied for 59th at 1-over 143, five shots short of even having a chance for the 18th and final spot in the 153-player field.
She hasn't played since January, when she missed the two-round cut by 14 strokes at the PGA Tour's Sony Open. A wrist injury forced her to skip the LPGA Tour's first major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, earlier this month.
