OAKMONT, Pa. -- Phil Mickelson, the world's No. 2 golfer, used the Memorial Day weekend to work on his short game at the Oakmont Country Club, site of next month's U.S. Open.

Oakmont will host the 107th U.S. Open from June 11-17, the eighth time the club has hosted the tournament.

Mickelson was scheduled to play a practice round Monday with club pro Bob Ford, club president Bill Griffith and U.S. Open chairman Mickey Pohl.

On Sunday, Mickelson spent time with caddy Jim Mackay and short-game guru Dave Pelz to work on chipping and putting on Oakmont's notoriously fast greens.

Mickelson declined interview requests Sunday.

"That's not my thing guys," he said. "I'm here to do some work."
