NCAA champ Lewis qualifies for U.S. Women's Open
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- NCAA champion Stacy Lewis of Arkansas has qualified for the U.S. Women's Open.
Lewis shot a two-round total of 145 at a sectional qualifier this week, tying for the top score at Houston's Westwood Golf Club. This year's U.S. Women's Open is June 28-July 1 at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.
"I couldn't be more pleased for Stacy," Arkansas interim coach Shauna Estes said. "This is another great opportunity for Stacy and she's playing such good golf right now. As a golfer, you try so hard to qualify for the big events like this and I think Stacy has a chance to go and do something really special."
Lewis won the individual national championship as a junior last month, then won the Women's Southern Amateur Championship last week. Earlier this year, she finished just two strokes behind the winner at the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship.
