Woods hints he'll play in all four season-ending events

BOSTON -- Tiger Woods said Monday that he plans to tee it up for all of the FedEx Cup playoff series events, beginning Aug. 23 with The Barclays at Westchester Country Club.

"My intent is to play all the playoffs," Woods said at a media day for the Deutsche Bank Championship, which is the second leg in the three-week playoffs. The fourth week is the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

Woods skipped last year's Tour Championship, as did Phil Mickelson.

The top 144 players in a points race through Aug. 19 at the Wyndham Championship advance to play in the playoffs. The top 120 advance to the Deutsche Bank, with the top 70 moving on to the third playoff event, the BMW Championship in Chicago.

The top 30 will play in the Tour Championship.

Prize money is $7 million for each event, and the overall points leader through the Tour Championship gets a $10 million bonus.

On Woods' Web site, it lists the Deutsche Bank event only among the playoff events. The tournament benefits Woods' charities.

The only other event listed is the Target World Challenge in December, an offseason event hosted by Woods.

Mickelson, nursing an injured wrist, is in the field for this week's Bridgestone Invitational, the World Golf Championship event at Firestone Country Club. Woods is as well.

According to the schedule listed on his Web site, Mickelson will play this week, next week at the PGA Championship at Southern Hills, take three weeks off and then play the final two FedEx playoff events at the Deutsche Bank and BMW, and then the Tour Championship (should he qualify).

Most expect him to shut it down for the season after that to rest his wrist in preparation for the 2008 season.
