After a 41-year run at Westchester Country Club in suburban New York, the Barclays -- one of four PGA Tour playoff events -- will move this year to Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J.
The tour announced the move Saturday after several weeks of reported contentiousness over the fact that Westchester attracted poor galleries and television ratings in the inaugural FedEx Cup playoff event won by Steve Stricker last August.
Several reports had the tour wanting to sever its contract with Westchester, but the announcement said the tournament would return to the club at least once by 2012.
"As we have said before, we believe it is in the best interest of the Barclays to rotate among various venues in the New York area, as do other significant events," PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said in a statement.
The 2009 Barclays will be held at Liberty National in Jersey City, N.J. The rotation of the Barclays for 2010 and beyond will be announced at a later time.
