Who will win the Players Championship?
The Players Championship will take center stage this week. One of the overarching questions, again, will be how the players conquer the prestigious 17th hole.
Additionally, the field is devoid of Tiger Woods.
Who will prevail at the event? Our experts make their predictions.

| Horse for the Course | The guy practically lives at TPC Sawgrass. He wears out the driving range. Vijay Singh has played it more than anyone else. But his best finish in the past four years is a tie for eighth in 2006. | Perhaps nobody, from tour players to TPC Sawgrass members, has dug out more divots on this practice range than Vijay Singh, who is somehow still searching for his initial victory in his adopted hometown of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
| The defending champion will set the stage for his Torrey Pines showdown versus Tiger in the U.S. Open. Phil Mickelson will have a strong effort at TPC Sawgrass. | There has never been a repeat winner at Sawgrass, but Phil Mickelson shot three sub-70 rounds a year ago, including a stellar 67 in the windy first round.
|
| Birdie Buster | The 2004 Players champion, Adam Scott, is playing nicely, coming off a victory in Dallas and a tie for eighth at the Wachovia. He also has two top-10s in the past three years at the Players. | Who is playing better golf than Stewart Cink right now? Well, nobody among non-winners this year, that's for sure. He now owns six top-10s in 10 starts so far, including a T-8 at Wachovia last week.
| Sergio Garcia makes a lot of birdies at Sawgrass, but it's just a question of minimizing the bogeys -- and making the putter behave. | Sergio Garcia shot 67-66 on the weekend last year, 1 stroke from tying the tournament record for lowest weekend total. |
| Super Sleeper | Hard to believe that Sean O'Hair didn't even post a top-10 after dueling Phil Mickelson for most of last year's final round. But two balls in the water at the par-3 17th knocked him all the way back to 11th, a day after shooting 66. | Alex Cejka isn't quite lighting things up this year, but he has played his best golf in Florida, with top-10 results at the Honda and Bay Hill. And he's fared well at the Players, with a scoring average of a half-stroke below par in two career starts. | He's missed eight cuts this year and hasn't won since 2002. But it feels like this place owes Chris DiMarco one. | Is it too much to ask of someone to win the Players after winning the week before? In the case of Anthony Kim, the three-word answer is "Not at all."
|
| Winner | He would become just the second European player to win the tournament. Lee Westwood will join Scotland's Sandy Lyle, who won in a 1987 playoff. | I have a feeling big things are on the horizon for Adam Scott. He may have a disappointing record in majors, but here's saying the '04 champ puts another Players victory on his résumé.
| The kid is on a roll with a first and second in his past three tournaments. Anthony Kim will emerge this week as a star. | Adam Scott was T-6 a year ago, but the 2004 champ knows he can win at Sawgrass. And he's hot, following his win in Dallas and a T-8 at Wachovia.
