Tanco fourth girl to repeat AJGA honor
For just the fourth time in the 32-year history of the American Junior Golf Association, Victoria Tanco earned back-to-back girls player of the year honors, the AJGA announced Wednesday.
On the boys side, Jordan Spieth claimed the top prize.
Tanco, originally from Argentina who now resides in Bradenton, Fla., had three victories this year and eight top-10 finishes in AJGA events. The highlight of the year for Spieth, a 16-year-old from Dallas, Tex., was his victory at the U.S. Junior Amateur.
Tanco joins Beth Bauer (1997-98), Kellee Booth (1992-93), and Vicki Goetze (1988-90) as the only girls to win consecutive player of the year awards.
Past recipients include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Charles Howell III, Hunter Mahan, Scott Verplank, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel.
