RALEIGH, N.C. -- High school sophomore Grayson Murray has made it to the weekend at the Rex Hospital Open, becoming the second-youngest player to make the cut at a Nationwide Tour event.

The 16-year-old birdied five of his final seven holes and shot a 66 on Friday for a 3-under 139. He says he "didn't have too many expectations going into a professional tournament" and is approaching the final two rounds as an educational experience.

Murray, the reigning North Carolina Class 4-A medalist, earned a spot in the tournament by winning the Rex Hospital Junior Invitational.

Another 16-year-old, Jordan Spieth, became the sixth-youngest player to make the cut at a PGA event. He had a 3-under 137 at the Byron Nelson Championship to qualify for the final two rounds.
