What's in my golf bag?
Caddie Jim "Bones" Mackay shares what's in Phil Mickelson's golf bag
TOOLS OF THE TRADE
"We travel with about 16 or 17 clubs and pick the final 14 depending on weather and course conditions. Phil will play Augusta at least twice prior to Masters Week, and decisions like 3-iron or hybrid, or how many wedges to carry, will be made in the practice rounds. In 2006, he carried two drivers and won, but he's hitting the RAZR Hawk very long and I'm sure that's the one he'll use come April."
PLENTY OF AMMO SPARE CHANGE
"We always start with a dozen balls. Eight or 10 times a year, he gives away so many along the course I have to remind him that it's three miles to the clubhouse and we've got only four balls left."
"Phil has several coins he considers lucky for marking his ball on the green. Some are quite old and have real sentimental value. We keep Sharpies in the bag to ID his ball, and for autographs after."
PLENTY OF AMMO
"The days can be long and you don't want your player getting hungry. I pack plenty of energy bars and bottled water, which I restock as the round is going on. Depending on the weather, he can drink eight, nine bottles of water, if not more."
"ChapStick, Advil, allergy medicine, an extra pair of contacts, contact solution, sunscreen and adhesive tape in case the skin on his hands starts to crack."
MR. FIX IT
"I carry lead tape so we can make an adjustment to one of his clubs during a practice round. It changes the way the club rotates through the ball. Also, I bring sandpaper to work on worn grips. It's an old caddie's trick."
AND FOR ME?
"Not much, maybe just my own rain gear. But it's all about Phil. I could care less about getting wet, so long as he's dry."
