Sheehan's 62 had potential of breaking 60
CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Patrick Sheehan set a course-record 62 Thursday at the Buy.com Tour's $425,000 Gila River Classic in a round that had potential of breaking 60.
Sheehan was 8-under after 11 holes on the 6,994-yard, par-71 Whirlwind Golf Club course. After that, though, he posted seven consecutive pars before finishing with a birdie for a 9-under 62.
He leads Todd Barranger by a stroke after Barranger broke the course record earlier in the day with a 63.
Anthony Painter and Jason Gore are tied for third with 7-under 64s on the course that's come as a relief for the Buy.com players, who last week battled the Bayonet course in Seaside, Calif., where only three players finished under par all week.
