Renardo Sidney, a 6-foot-10 senior center from Fairfax High (Los Angeles), has
been picked as the latest ESPN RISE National Player of the Week in boys
Sidney led the Lions to a 4-0 week, highlighted by a 26-point,
22-rebound effort in a win over Westchester (Los Angeles). That
game pitted two of the nation's top 15 teams in the ESPN RISE FAB 50 and was
an avenging win by Fairfax. Sidney also had a 28-point game against Palisades (Pacific Palisades, Calif.).
After being named the State Sophomore Player of the Year in 2007 when he
attended Artesia (Lakewood, Calif.) and then being chosen as the State Junior Player
of the Year last season at Fairfax, Sidney is the leading candidate to be the
Mr. Basketball State Player of the Year this year by CalHiSports.com.
Here are the rest of this week's ESPN RISE regional basketball players of the week:
East Region Region Boys' Basketball Player of the Week
Chaz Williams (Bishop Ford, Brooklyn, N.Y.)
He had one of his best games of the season last week as he scored 38 points
for the second time to go with 10 assists and six rebounds in a 81-64 victory
over Cardinal Hayes (Bronx, N.Y.). The 5-foot-9 senior guard verbally committed to Hofstra before
his junior season and recently signed a letter of intent with the school.
Southeast Region Boys' Basketball Player of the Week
Lorenzo Brown (Centennial, Roswell, Ga.)
The No. 48 player in the ESPNU 100 was dominating with 28 points, nine
rebounds and nine assists as his team rolled past Alpharetta (Marietta, Ga.),
100-63. Brown, a 6-foot-4 combo guard who has committed to N.C. State, was the MVP
earlier this season at the GlaxoSmithKline Invitational tourney.
Midwest Region Boys' Basketball Player of the Week
Jamil Wilson (Horlick, Racine, Wis.)
The 6-foot-7 forward scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Rebels (14-1) to
a 61-44 win over Southeast Conference rival Kenosha Tremper. Wilson, who had
four dunks and 10 rebounds, is being recruited by Texas, Oregon and Michigan
State among others.
Southwest Region Boys' Basketball Player of the Week
Greg White (De Queen, Ark.)
The 6-foot-4, 215 pound junior running back from the football team is tough to
tackle but also has shown to be equally as tough to stop on the basketball
court averaging over 22 points a game. He had one of his finer performances of
the year last week as he scored 34 points and grabbed a season-high 16
rebounds in a 61-47 win by the Leopards over Malvern.
