Lindsay chooses Spiders, prepares for senior season

Cedrick Lindsay, a 6-foot-1 senior guard at Gonzaga High School (D.C.) who earned All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) and All-Met Honors as a junior in 2008-2009, committed to Richmond University in the Atlantic-10 over the summer.

Lindsay averaged 17.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and two steals per game for head coach Steve Turner's Purple Eagles.

"They [Richmond] have a really good basketball program that is really improving," Lindsay said of choosing Richmond. "Also, it is close to home and has a really nice campus. The coaches showed that they really wanted me here and made me fell wanted."

"He had about 15 (scholarship) offers on the table when he decided to commit to Richmond (in August)," Turner told ESPNRISE.com. "Cedrick had offers from Niagra, William & Mary, Harvard, Jacksonville, Brown, Loyola, George Mason had offered him earlier."

As a sophomore in 2007-2008, Lindsay was the sixth man on the Gonzaga team that went 34-1 and won the WCAC Championship, the D.C. City Title, and the Alhambra Championship. ESPNU.Com has ranked Gonzaga in the National Top Ten the last two years.

Lindsay enhanced his local and national recruiting profile with an outstanding junior year at Gonzaga as well as some excellent play on the AAU and spring/summer camp circuit in the off-season. Since his freshman year of high school, Lindsay has played AAU ball with the prestigious Team DC Assault AAU Program.

Lindsay is a strong, tough, fundamentally sound combo guard who has excellent shooting range, but also has the strength to body-up opponents on defense and take the ball to the rim with authority on offense.

Last season, Lindsay was somewhat overshadowed by teammates Ian Hummer, a center now playing at Princeton University, and classmate and fellow backcourt partner Tyler Thornton who is committed to Duke University. Both Hummer and Thornton were 2009 First Team All-Met choices.

"Frankly, I think Cedrick should have been First Team (All-Met), too. He really took his game up a level," Turner said. "Cedrick was outstanding in WCAC play, in our biggest games. I look for him to be even better this year as a senior."

Turner said that the University of Richmond recruited Lindsay to play both backcourt positions, both wing guard and point guard, a role he has played at Gonzaga the last two seasons.

"In our system, we play a two guard system where both guards handle the ball a lot," Turner explained. "For us, Tyler Thornton and Cedrick Lindsay both play some at point guard and some off the ball, so, Cedrick is comfortable playing either [guard] position."
